Could humans have evolved and still be made by God?

Many Christians say yes, and this view—often called evolutionary creation or theistic evolution—has serious, long-standing support within the church.

The key distinction is between evolution as a natural process and naturalism as a philosophical claim that nothing beyond nature exists. Accepting the first doesn't require accepting the second. A Christian can affirm that God used an evolutionary process, working through the natural laws and mechanisms he designed, to bring about human life, in the same way many already accept God working through ordinary biological processes like conception and pregnancy.

Other Christians remain unconvinced, believing Scripture requires more direct, special acts of creation, particularly for humans made "in God's image." This is a genuine, ongoing disagreement between sincere Christians who share the same core faith, not a case where accepting mainstream biology automatically means abandoning belief in a creator.
