Can I take medication for anxiety or depression and still trust God?

Yes. Trusting God and using medicine aren't competing options—Scripture itself treats practical remedies as part of how God's care reaches people, not a rejection of it.

Paul, writing to Timothy, gives startlingly practical medical advice: "use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses" (1 Timothy 5:23). This is Scripture recommending a physical remedy for a physical problem, without a hint that doing so shows weak faith.

James instructs believers who are sick to "call for the elders of the church, and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14)—combining prayer with a practical, physical application, not treating them as alternatives to choose between.

Anxiety and depression often have real biological components, the same way a stomach illness does. Medication that helps regulate that isn't a spiritual shortcut or a lack of trust—it's a tool, like any other medical treatment, that can be one part of how healing actually happens.
