Why does God care who I sleep with?

It can feel like God is being unnecessarily controlling about something deeply personal. But the Bible's own reasoning isn't control for its own sake—it's about how closely sex is tied to your whole wellbeing, not just a private, isolated choice.

Scripture treats sex as something that shapes a person—emotionally, relationally, even spiritually. Paul describes marital intimacy as mutual self-giving: "A husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise a wife to her husband" (1 Corinthians 7:3)—two people belonging fully to each other, not private ownership of your own body alone.

God caring about this isn't separate from God caring about you generally. The same God concerned with your integrity and your relationships is naturally going to care about an area of life that shapes both so deeply.

This doesn't mean every choice outside that pattern instantly ruins someone, or that God stops loving people who've made different choices. It means God's guidance here comes from real care, not detached rule-enforcement.
