How do I know if a miracle story is true?

You don't have to choose between gullibly believing every claim and cynically dismissing them all. Scripture itself actually models real discernment.

The Bible warns that not everything that looks miraculous is automatically from God—Moses warned that even a prophet whose sign "comes about" should still be rejected if it leads people away from God. John tells believers to actually "test the spirits" rather than assume every spiritual claim is trustworthy.

Some practical questions help: Is the story recent, or vague and secondhand? Is there any documentation, like medical records, or just a retold story? Does the claim point people toward God's character, or mainly toward a particular preacher or platform? Would it still be worth telling if it turned out to have an ordinary explanation?

None of this proves a specific story true or false by itself. But careful, honest examination—not blind trust or blanket suspicion—is exactly what Scripture itself asks for.
