Are Mormons Christians?

It depends on what you mean by "Christian." The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints uses the Bible, honors Jesus as Savior, and sincerely considers itself Christian.

But historic Christian teaching—shared by Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches—defines "Christian" using beliefs settled by the earliest church councils, especially about who God is. Mormon teaching describes God the Father as a glorified, physical being who was once a man, and teaches faithful humans can eventually become gods themselves. It also treats the Book of Mormon and other writings as scripture alongside the Bible.

Both of those move well outside what Christians have historically affirmed—God as one eternal being in three persons, unlike anything he created, with the Bible as a complete, closed collection.

So most historic Christian traditions consider Mormonism a related but separate religious movement, while recognizing Latter-day Saints as sincere people who genuinely love and follow Jesus as they understand him.
