What happens at the final judgment?

The Bible describes a real, final day when every person stands before God to give an account of their life. Revelation pictures "a great white throne," where "books" are opened and "the dead were judged according to their works." Jesus describes something similar in Matthew 25: he returns in glory and separates people "as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats."

For Christians, Paul says this same moment—the "judgment seat of Christ"—still matters. Salvation itself is a gift, not something earned, but how a person actually lived still gets evaluated.

Christians hold different views about exactly how this connects to other end-times events. But the core is widely shared: God judges fairly, nothing stays hidden, and how you've lived genuinely matters. That should feel sobering. It can also feel hopeful—a world full of real unfairness needs exactly this kind of good, honest judge.
