Is the rapture really taught in the Bible?

1 Thessalonians 4's description of believers being "caught up" to meet Christ is genuinely in the Bible—that part isn't in dispute. What's specifically debated is whether this describes a separate, earlier event happening before a future tribulation period, which is where Christians who affirm the same text still land in different places.

Pretribulation supporters point to Revelation's promise to "keep you from the hour of testing that is going to come on the whole world," reading it as a promise of removal before that period begins. Those who read Scripture differently point to Jesus' own description of believers being gathered "immediately after the distress of those days"—language explicitly placing the gathering after tribulation, not before it, which they take as directly describing the same event Paul discusses in Thessalonians.

Both sides are working from real biblical texts and careful interpretation, not one side simply reading Scripture and the other ignoring it—this is a genuine, respectful disagreement about timing and how different passages fit together.
