If God knows someone will go to hell, why create them?

This is a genuinely difficult question, especially for anyone worrying about a specific person they love, and it deserves honesty rather than a quick formula.

One response argues that a genuinely free creature's existence, including the real possibility of rejecting God, is still worth creating—since forcing guaranteed acceptance would remove the very freedom that makes love and relationship meaningful in the first place. Some philosophers have argued it may not even be possible for God to create a world with genuinely free creatures where everyone freely chooses him, without that meaning God didn't try or doesn't care.

Christians also disagree about what "hell" ultimately involves—eternal conscious separation, a final ending of existence, or something else—which changes how heavy this specific question feels depending on the view held. This remains a real, weighty question serious Christian thinkers continue to wrestle with rather than one with a fully settled, comfortable answer.
