Are dinosaurs mentioned in the Bible?

Not by name—the word "dinosaur" wasn't coined until 1841, long after the biblical texts were written, so no ancient text could have used it.

Some readers connect two unusual creatures in the book of Job, Behemoth and Leviathan, to dinosaurs. The majority scholarly view, going back centuries, identifies Behemoth with something like a hippopotamus or elephant and Leviathan with a crocodile or a poetic sea-monster figure common in ancient Near Eastern literature, both described with dramatic exaggeration typical of Hebrew poetry. A minority of Christians, mostly within young-earth creationism, argue these passages describe dinosaurs that coexisted with humans.

Mainstream paleontology and geology place the extinction of non-avian dinosaurs tens of millions of years before humans existed, based on independent dating methods. Young-earth creationists reject that dating framework itself—a genuine, significant disagreement among Christians about the age of the earth, addressed more directly elsewhere.
