If I stopped believing, would God still love me?

Scripture consistently describes God's love as directed at people while they were still far from him. It isn't a reward that switches off the moment belief wavers. That's true whether you're having doubts right now, or have drifted much further than that.

Christians genuinely disagree on the deeper theological question here: whether someone who truly stops believing can eventually return, and what that means for salvation long-term. Some traditions teach a person who genuinely belonged to God can't finally, permanently walk away. Others hold that real, lasting rejection is possible.
