Can church hurt make it hard to trust God?

Yes, genuinely, and that reaction makes real sense. Being hurt by leaders or a community that claimed to represent God can make trusting God himself feel much harder. God and the people who failed you aren't the same thing, though.

That distinction is true and important. It isn't a reason to minimize what happened, rush someone back into a harmful environment, or expect quick healing on a timeline that isn't theirs.

Jesus himself was sharply critical of religious leaders who used their position to control or burden people instead of caring for them. This isn't a new problem the church has never acknowledged. Real accountability matters here, not just private forgiveness offered on demand.

Healing from this kind of hurt often takes real time. Sometimes that means a counselor. Sometimes it means a different, healthier community, or real distance first. There's no required timeline, and no requirement to return to the place that caused the harm.
