Why do I feel closer to God outside church than inside it?

That's a common experience, and it doesn't mean church is fake or unnecessary. Nature, music, solitude, and quiet moments often feel more emotionally alive than a structured Sunday service, for lots of genuine believers.

Church serves purposes personal spiritual moments don't: being known by other people over time, accountability, shared teaching, and belonging to something bigger than your own private experience. Those things matter even during services that don't feel emotionally powerful in the moment.

This doesn't mean every feeling here is just about preference. Sometimes it reflects a real mismatch with a specific church, or something in the format that isn't working for you personally, worth naming rather than ignoring.

Feeling more alive to God in solitude is worth paying attention to, not dismissing. It's not, by itself, a good reason to walk away from Christian community altogether.
