Is it a sin for a Christian to drink alcohol?

The Bible consistently warns against drunkenness. But it doesn't teach that drinking alcohol itself is always wrong. Those are two different things, and mixing them up causes a lot of confusion here.

Wine appears throughout Scripture in positive, ordinary contexts. It's listed among the good things God provides, and Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding. What gets consistently condemned is drunkenness and losing control, not the drink itself.

At the same time, plenty of Christians choose not to drink at all, for real, good reasons: personal conviction, a family history with addiction, care for people who struggle with alcohol, or a specific church tradition. Paul himself says it can be good to give something up entirely if it might cause someone else to stumble.

So this isn't "the Bible requires total abstinence," and it isn't "anything goes" either. It's closer to: don't get drunk, and be thoughtful about how your choices affect people around you.
