Is it wrong for a Christian to be gay?

Christians genuinely disagree on this. It deserves a careful, honest answer, not a quick verdict in either direction.

It helps to separate two things: experiencing same-sex attraction, and acting on it in a relationship. Most Christian traditions, including more traditional ones, don't treat attraction itself as sinful. It's something someone experiences, not something they chose.

On same-sex relationships specifically, Christians land in real disagreement. Some hold that a handful of biblical passages restrict sexual relationships to marriage between a man and a woman. In this view, same-sex relationships fall outside that pattern—while gay people's full worth and dignity are still affirmed. Others read those same passages as addressing specific ancient abuses, not committed relationships as understood today. They believe Scripture's broader themes support blessing same-sex relationships instead.

Whatever view a church holds, treating gay people as more sinful, less loved by God, or less valuable than anyone else isn't something mainstream Christian teaching actually supports, on either side of this debate.
