Can Christianity and evolution both be true?

Many Christians think so. Others don't. This is a real, ongoing disagreement among Christians, not a settled matter with one obvious answer.

Evolution—the idea that life changed and diversified over long periods of time—is the mainstream scientific view among biologists today. Some Christians, sometimes called evolutionary creationists, accept that science and believe God worked through that process. Others hold an old earth but doubt some evolutionary claims, especially about human origins. Others reject evolution more broadly and hold a young earth, reading Genesis more literally.

It helps to separate two different questions: how did life develop, which is a scientific question, and why does anything exist, and what are humans for, which are questions science alone doesn't answer either way.

There's no single "the Christian view" here. There's a real range of thoughtful, sincere positions, and good, faithful Christians land in more than one of them.
