Life & Faith
What if I don't feel anything when I pray or read the Bible?
That's more common than it sounds, even among Christians who've been at this for decades. Feeling nothing doesn't automatically mean nothing real is happening.
Prayer and Bible reading aren't designed to produce a strong feeling every time. Sometimes they do. Often they're quieter than that—closer to a habit of showing up than an emotional experience.
Numbness can come from ordinary causes: tiredness, stress, repetition, or a season of life that's just heavy. It can also come from something like depression, which flattens feelings about everything, not just faith. That's worth naming honestly instead of assuming it's a spiritual problem alone.
Keep showing up anyway. Read something different, pray shorter or more honestly, or talk to someone rather than carrying it alone. Feeling nothing for a while isn't proof your faith has failed—it's a common season, not a verdict.
