Why are there so many Christian churches that disagree with each other?

Christianity is a two-thousand-year-old, worldwide movement with a book meant to be studied and applied. Some disagreement was probably inevitable. That doesn't make the divisions painless or unimportant.

Most Christian traditions—Catholic, Orthodox, and most Protestant churches—actually agree on the core claims. There's one God. Jesus is God who became human, died, and rose again. The Bible carries real authority. That shared core is bigger than it often gets credit for.

The real disagreements cluster around specific questions: how church leadership should work, exactly how salvation operates, what the sacraments do, and how to read certain passages. These aren't trivial questions. Pretending they don't matter would be dishonest.

Disagreement doesn't automatically mean nobody's right about anything. But it's also fair to say this much honest disagreement is a real cost, not something to wave away.
