Can I be a real Christian and still have serious doubts?

Yes. Doubt and rejection are not the same thing.

The Bible contains people who trust God while simultaneously questioning, fearing and struggling to believe. One father says to Jesus, "I do believe; help my unbelief!" Thomas refuses to accept the resurrection merely because his friends tell him it happened.

Christian faith is not the same as maintaining a constant feeling of certainty.

Some doubts are intellectual: "Is this actually true?" Others are emotional: "Why does God feel absent?" Some come from suffering or disappointment. They need different responses.

The important thing is not to pretend your questions do not exist. Examine them. Ask what evidence would matter. Notice whether the doubt concerns Christianity itself or a particular version of Christianity you were taught.

Doubt can lead away from faith, but it can also lead to a faith that has been examined rather than inherited unquestioningly.
