How can a loving God send anyone to hell?

Christianity does teach final judgment, and there is no honest way to make that an easy idea.

But the Bible does not picture God as enjoying people's destruction. It repeatedly describes him as wanting people to turn back, be reconciled and live.

Love and judgment are not necessarily opposites. If cruelty, exploitation and evil ultimately mattered nothing, that would raise its own problem about God's goodness. The harder question is whether eternal punishment is proportionate—and Christians have disagreed about exactly how biblical descriptions of hell should be understood.

What Christianity does not allow is a picture of a casually vindictive God. The same faith that warns about judgment centers on God entering human history in Christ to reconcile people to himself.

You do not have to pretend hell is emotionally easy in order to take Christianity seriously.
