What happens to someone I love if they die without believing in Jesus?

This question hurts differently when it has the face of someone you love.

Christianity teaches that salvation comes through Jesus. It also teaches that God judges perfectly, knows every person's heart, and understands things about someone's life that we don't.

That means Christians should be very careful about declaring the final fate of a particular person.

You may know what someone said publicly about faith. You don't know everything that happened between that person and God—especially near the end of their life.

Christianity gives us serious warnings about rejecting God, so it wouldn't be honest to simply say “everyone is definitely fine.”

But neither should we pretend God has given us enough information to announce the eternal destiny of every individual.
