Life & Faith
Am I really saved, or am I only telling myself that because I'm scared of hell?
Being afraid that you aren't saved doesn't prove that you aren't.
Christianity doesn't teach that you're saved because you feel certain enough, behave perfectly enough, or never have doubts. Its central claim is that salvation is a gift from God, received through trust in Jesus—not a prize for people who manage to become flawless Christians.
That means constantly checking “Do I believe enough? Did I repent properly? Was that sin too bad?” can put your attention in the wrong place.
The better question is not “Can I make myself feel 100% certain?”
It's “Who am I trusting?”
The New Testament says people can know that they have eternal life (1 John 5:13). Doubts and fears may still come, but your salvation doesn't have to rise and fall with every emotion you experience.
